Chain link fence installation in Denver by Valenzuela Fence

Chain Link Fences
Built to last.

Durable, affordable, and versatile — chain link is the workhorse of the fencing world. We install residential, commercial, and custom chain link fencing throughout the Denver metro with a 4-year workmanship warranty.

The most cost-effective fence you can install.

Chain link fencing has been the go-to solution for backyards, dog runs, commercial security, and industrial properties for over a century — and for good reason. It's affordable, it's virtually maintenance-free, and when properly installed, it lasts 25-40 years.

Modern chain link isn't your grandfather's silver-colored school fence either. Black vinyl-coated chain link has become a go-to choice for Denver homeowners who want the durability of steel with a finish that disappears into the landscape. You get the view without the visual clutter.

At Valenzuela Fence, we install residential and commercial chain link across Denver metro using properly-gauged galvanized steel, concrete-set posts, and tensioned fabric that stays tight for the long haul.

Applications

Where chain link works best.

Chain link isn't the right answer for every property — but for these uses, it's often the smartest choice.

01

Backyard Containment

Keep dogs in, deer out, and kids safe without spending privacy-fence money. A 4-6ft chain link backyard fence runs less cost of a cedar fence.

02

Dog Runs & Kennels

Chain link is the standard for dog runs because it's bite-resistant, impossible to chew through, and allows full airflow and visibility. Perfect for active dogs.

03

Commercial Security

Warehouses, equipment yards, contractor lots. Topped with barbed wire provides genuine security at a fraction of the cost of ornamental steel.

04

Pool Enclosures

Denver and Colorado building codes require pool fencing for safety. Chain link meets code requirements at the lowest cost, with self-closing gate options available.

05

Sports & Play Areas

Baseball backstops, tennis court enclosures, batting cages, playground boundaries. Chain link handles impact that would destroy wood or vinyl fencing.

Material Options

Galvanized or vinyl-coated — we install both.

Two main finish options for chain link, each with real trade-offs. We help you pick the right one for your property.

Galvanized chain link fence
Our durable Chain-Link fences provide both security and affordability for commercial and residential properties.
Classic

Galvanized Steel Chain Link

The original. Zinc-coated galvanized steel resists rust and weathers well in Colorado's dry climate. This is the most affordable option and the right choice for utilitarian applications — commercial yards, dog runs, construction sites, or anywhere function matters more than aesthetics.

We use 9-gauge or 11.5-gauge fabric depending on your application. Heavier gauge = more durable but more expensive.

Black Vinyl-Coated Chain Link

Galvanized steel wrapped in a bonded black vinyl coating. This is our most popular residential chain link option because the black finish practically disappears against landscaping, trees, and darker home exteriors — you get the security of chain link without the visual weight.

Also available in green and brown vinyl coatings. The vinyl coating extends the lifespan of the steel underneath and is significantly more attractive than bare galvanized for residential use.

Fence Heights

Height matters — here's what each does.

Chain link heights we install most often, and what each is best suited for.

4ft
Residential Standard

Backyard containment, pool enclosures (code varies), front yard boundaries. Best for containing medium dogs and kids.

6ft
Full Residential

Tall enough to contain large dogs and deter casual trespassing. Most common height for residential chain link.

8ft
Commercial

Business properties, storage yards, and industrial sites. Often topped with barbed wire for security.

Chain link FAQs.

How long does chain link fence last?
Properly installed galvanized chain link typically lasts 25-40 years in Colorado. Black vinyl-coated chain link often lasts even longer — 30-50 years — because the vinyl coating protects the steel from weathering. The biggest failure points are terminal posts (if they weren't set deep enough in concrete) and the fabric tension (if it wasn't stretched tight on install). We handle both of those correctly.
Is black vinyl-coated chain link worth the extra cost?
For residential applications, almost always yes. The aesthetic difference is dramatic — bare galvanized looks industrial and heavy, while black vinyl visually disappears against landscaping. You also get longer lifespan due to the vinyl protection, and the fabric is less prone to becoming ugly as it ages. The 25-40% premium usually pays for itself in property value and looks.
Can chain link contain a large or aggressive dog?
Yes, but height matters. A determined large dog can clear a 4ft chain link easily — we recommend 6ft for any large dog, and 6ft with a top rail (not just tension wire) for jumpers. For dogs that dig, we can install the fabric with a buried bottom rail or tension wire extending 6-12 inches below grade. For extreme cases, concrete kickboards along the fence line prevent digging entirely.
Do I need a permit for a chain link fence in Denver?
In most Denver metro cities, residential fences under 6ft don't require a permit, but fences taller than 6ft or commercial installations usually do. HOA communities have their own approval requirements regardless of city rules. We handle permit applications and HOA submittals as part of our service — just let us know your situation at quote time.
Can you add privacy slats to a chain link fence?
Yes. Vinyl or aluminum privacy slats weave through the chain link fabric and provide 75-90% visual privacy depending on the slat type. It's a way to get privacy at chain-link prices. However, privacy slats add wind load, which means posts and fabric need to be sized accordingly — we factor this into quotes when privacy slats are planned.
Will chain link rust in Colorado?
Galvanized chain link can start showing surface rust after 15-25 years in Colorado's climate, especially near sprinkler systems or in areas with heavy snow buildup. The zinc galvanization protects the underlying steel — when it finally wears through, rust begins. Vinyl-coated chain link resists rust for much longer because the vinyl layer adds a second barrier. In our dry climate, both options last significantly longer than in humid coastal areas.
How quickly can you install chain link?
Chain link installs faster than wood fencing — most residential jobs (100-300 linear feet) are completed in 1-2 days. Day 1 is typically tear-out, post-setting, and concrete cure. Day 2 is fabric stretching, rails, gates, and cleanup. Commercial jobs run longer depending on scale.
