Ornamental iron fence installation in Denver by Valenzuela Fence

Ornamental Iron Fences.
Security meets elegance.

Wrought iron, aluminum, and decorative steel fences for Denver homes, estates, pool enclosures, and commercial properties. Custom-designed, professionally installed, built to last for generations.

The fence that doesn't block the view.

Ornamental iron is what you install when you want presence without visual bulk. Unlike privacy fencing, iron fences define a property line while keeping sightlines open — perfect for Denver homes where mountain views, open landscaping, or architectural detail deserve to be seen, not hidden.

They're also the most secure residential fence option. Properly installed steel fencing with spear-top pickets is difficult to climb, impossible to cut through without power tools, and holds its shape against everything a Colorado storm can throw at it.

We install ornamental fencing in three material grades — traditional wrought iron, aluminum for low-maintenance residential, and heavy-gauge steel for commercial and estate applications. Each has real trade-offs, and we help you pick the right one.

Custom ornamental iron fence Denver

Four reasons iron fencing outperforms.

Ornamental iron costs more than wood or chain link — but it earns that premium in places those fences can't touch.

01

Preserves Views

Open-picket design means mountain views, lake views, and architectural landscaping stay visible. Your fence defines boundaries without blocking sight.

02

Maximum Security

Steel pickets with spear tops are the most difficult residential fence to climb or breach. Optional add-ons include anti-ram cables and height extensions.

03

Lasts Generations

Powder-coated aluminum lasts 30-50+ years. Wrought iron — maintained properly — can last a century. This is not a fence you'll ever replace.

04

Raises Home Value

Ornamental iron fencing signals premium property to buyers. Real estate appraisers consistently value iron-fenced properties higher than wood or chain link.

Material Options

Three grades — each with real trade-offs.

All three look similar from 20 feet away. The difference shows up in longevity, maintenance, cost, and where they work best.

— Most Popular

Aluminum Ornamental

Powder-coated cast aluminum delivers the look of wrought iron with zero rust and no maintenance. This is our most common residential install because it pairs the aesthetic with real practicality. Colorado's dry climate is ideal for aluminum — no humidity, no salt air, no reason to worry about degradation.

Pros
  • Zero rust, zero maintenance
  • Lightweight, easier install
  • 30-50+ year lifespan
  • Most affordable of the three

— Traditional

Wrought Iron (Steel)

True wrought iron is nearly impossible to find today — what's sold as "wrought iron" is typically forged mild steel. It's heavier, stronger, and more substantial-looking than aluminum, with the authentic hand-forged look that luxury estates and historic districts often require. Needs periodic paint maintenance in Colorado.

Pros
  • Heaviest, most substantial feel
  • Can be hand-forged for custom detail
  • Unmatched authentic look
  • Premium property signal
Premium
— Commercial

Heavy-Gauge Steel

For commercial properties, estate perimeters, and high-security installations — welded steel panels with reinforced posts, often with anti-climb features built in. This is what goes around data centers, schools, and municipal properties. Structurally the strongest option and often the most customizable.

Pros
  • Maximum security rating
  • Tallest heights (up to 10ft+)
  • Anti-climb and anti-ram options
  • Commercial-grade hardware
Commercial
— Hybrid

Iron + Stone/Brick Columns

Iron panels set between stone or brick columns create the most high-end fencing look available. This is estate-level fencing — the columns add visual rhythm and structural strength, and the combination of masonry with ornamental iron is unmatched for curb appeal. We partner with masons for these hybrid builds.

Pros
  • Highest property value impact
  • Adds lighting/electrical options
  • Defines prestigious properties
  • Fully custom design
Estate

Where ornamental iron shines brightest.

I
Front Yard & Curb Appeal

When you want the property to look distinguished from the street without blocking the view of the home itself. Iron says "this is a well-kept property."

II
Pool Enclosures

Colorado code requires 4ft minimum pool fencing with self-closing, self-latching gates. Ornamental iron meets code, looks elegant, and doesn't visually shrink the pool area.

III
Mountain-View Homes

Foothills and elevated properties where the view is the selling feature. Iron defines property lines without hiding why you bought the home.

IV
HOA Entries & Community

Neighborhood entry gates, community park fencing, and perimeter walls for upscale subdivisions. We work with HOA boards on large-scale builds.

V
Commercial Perimeters

Business campuses, medical buildings, and professional offices. Ornamental iron projects a more refined image than chain link while delivering equivalent security.

VI
Driveway Gates

Automated iron driveway gates — single or double swing, or sliding cantilever — with keypad or remote entry. We partner with gate automation specialists for these builds.

Ornamental iron FAQs.

What's the difference between aluminum and wrought iron?
From 20 feet away, very little — both can have the same picket shapes, spear tops, and scroll details. The differences are weight (iron is 3-4x heavier), maintenance (aluminum needs almost none, iron needs periodic paint), cost (aluminum is 30-50% cheaper), and authenticity (true hand-forged iron has a handmade quality no cast aluminum can replicate). For most residential applications in Denver, powder-coated aluminum is the smarter choice. For estate properties or historic districts, wrought iron still wins.
Does ornamental iron fence meet Colorado pool code?
Yes, when installed correctly. Colorado pool barrier requirements include minimum 4ft height, maximum 4-inch picket spacing (to prevent kids from squeezing through), maximum 2-inch gap at the bottom, and self-closing, self-latching gates with latches 54+ inches above ground. We install pool-code-compliant ornamental iron regularly and can provide the paperwork your insurer or building inspector requires.
Will aluminum fence rust in Colorado?
No. Aluminum literally cannot rust — rust is iron oxide, and aluminum contains no iron. The powder-coat finish will eventually fade after 20-30 years of direct sun exposure, but structurally the fence is unaffected. This is a major reason aluminum has overtaken wrought iron for residential ornamental fencing in dry Western states.
Can you add iron fencing to existing brick or stone columns?
Yes. If you already have masonry columns or want us to build them, we can fabricate iron panels to fit between them precisely. Iron-between-columns is the highest-end look in residential fencing. If the columns already exist, we'll measure each opening individually so each panel fits perfectly — these are not off-the-shelf builds.
How long does iron fence installation take?
Standard aluminum installations (100-200 linear feet) take 2-4 days. Custom wrought iron or jobs with masonry take longer — often 1-2 weeks including coordination with masons. Estate-level custom work with ornamental details and automated gates can extend to 3-6 weeks. We lock timelines into the written quote.
Do I need a permit for ornamental iron?
Pool fencing usually requires a building permit regardless of material. Non-pool ornamental fencing follows the same permit rules as any other residential fence in your city — generally under 6ft requires no permit, over 6ft does. HOA communities have their own approval requirements on top of city rules. We handle all permit applications as part of the project.
Can I automate an iron driveway gate?
Yes, and we partner with gate automation specialists for these builds. Options include keypad entry, wireless remotes, vehicle loop sensors, and smartphone-controlled access. We handle the fence and gate fabrication; our automation partners handle the electrical, motors, and access controls. Automation adds $3,000-8,000+ depending on system complexity.
